Dear Parents and Guardians of English Learners,
All students identified as an English Learner and are currently receiving English as a Second Language services, will take an English language test, WIDA ACCESS, between January 25, 2021 and May 20, 2021. Agawam Public Schools is required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to test all English Learners in person. DESE does not allow this test to be administered remotely.
Your child does not need to study for the assessment. The test is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking ability in English. The results will help schools and parents to determine whether students have lost or gained English language proficiency during the pandemic so appropriate resources can be provided to assist them.
Please email Ashley Martins at amartins@agawamed.org if you have any questions.
Stay well!
Ashley Martins, M.Ed.
Director of English Language Education
Agawam Public Schools
